Mike van der Hoorn reckons finding “a vision” will be key as Swansea City look to bounce back from Premier League relegation.

The Swans are heading back to the Championship after seven years as a top-flight club.

And van der Hoorn believes the Swans’ approach will be key to their hopes of making an immediate return to the highest level.

“We need to have a vision of what we want to do next season,” he said.

“I think people want to stay at this club and make sure we get back up.

“We have everything you need to be a Premier League club and we have to focus on getting back there now.

“Next season we have to focus – we have to get an idea of how we want to play.

“We have to make things clear and have a target to get back up. If we focus on that, I think we will win games.”

Having made only 11 appearances in his first season with the Swans, van der Hoorn enjoyed a breakthrough in 2017-18 as he featured 33 times.

But the Dutchman says he can take no pleasure from his progress because his second year as a Swan ended in a relegation.

Instead van der Hoorn’s focus is on trying to ensure the club have a far more enjoyable time in 2018-19.

“Personally the second half of the season was better for me, but I cannot take any positives because we were relegated,” he added.

“I have to reflect on what went wrong and what was good. I hope I can help the club come back to where it belongs next season.”
