Pablo: Win boosts confidence

9th February

Pablo Hernandez believes that Swansea's 3-0 victory over rivals Cardiff City will provide a massive confidence boost for him and his teammates.

Three second-half strikes from Wayne Routledge, Nathan Dyer and Wilfried Bony earned the hosts victory in the second South Wales derby of the season.

After a tightly contested first period, Routledge put the hosts in front two minutes into the second-half, latching onto a Hernandez through ball before calmly slotting home.

With eleven minutes left on the clock, Nathan Dyer doubled Swansea's advantage, nodding home from close range, before Wilfried Bony rounded off the win with a powerful header from another Hernandez assist.

The victory takes the Swans four points clear of the relegation zone in 10th position, and Hernandez believes the victory against Cardiff will boost confidence ahead of a crucial run of fixtures.

"I think it's very important," said the Spaniard. "For the club and for the fans, beating Cardiff is unbelievable.

"It was the perfect game for us. The team is very, very happy because this victory is very important for the confidence with three away games coming up.

"It hasn't been an easy week, but the team will have confidence after this. The three points are very important."

Hernandez will also gain confidence from the victory after he set up two of his side's goals in a superb second-half performance.

He added: "I didn't start today, but in the second-half I wanted to play well for the new coach.

"Before the game, the manager spoke with me about playing behind the striker, and to get two assists was very important for my confidence.

"I was happy to be able to help the team."
