Mike van der Hoorn believes the point gained from Saturday’s stalemate at Huddersfield could prove precious in the Swans’ battle against the drop.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side fought bravely at the John Smith’s Stadium as they held on for a 0-0 draw despite having Jordan Ayew sent off in the 11th minute after a challenge with Terriers skipper Jonathan Hogg.

The Swans were pinned back by the hosts for the vast majority of the game, with Huddersfield enjoying 80 per cent of possession and having numerous attempts at goal.

The Swans, though, put in a fine defensive effort which saw them leave Yorkshire without being breached.

“It was a good point. They had lots of possession and shots at goal, but all I care about is that we took a point from the game,” said van der Hoorn.

“It is a point that could prove so important in our season, so we are delighted with the draw particularly as we played with 10 men for 80 minutes.

“I think that performance shows how determined we are to avoid relegation. It was a game that proved very difficult in the circumstances, but everyone stayed focused and committed and it is a performance and result that we can be proud of.”
