Preview: Swans v Arsenal

30th January
First team

The Swans look to record consecutive victories on home soil in the Premier League when they host Arsenal at the Liberty tonight (7.45pm).

Alfie Mawson's goal last time out in SA1 was enough to earn the Swans victory in a tense affair with Liverpool.

Now they face Arsenal knowing a repeat result could be enough to send the Swans soaring off bottom spot and out of the relegation zone.

The hosts will also look to continue their fine form under Carlos Carvalhal, having lost just once in his seven games in charge.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have responded to a run of five games without victory by winning their last two outings in the league and Carabao Cup.

Team news

Carvalhal has just one member of his squad unavailable, with loanee Renato Sanches limping off during Saturday's FA Cup clash with Notts County.

Other than that, the Swans boss has a fully-fit squad at his disposal with a number of players picking up valuable game-time at the weekend.

Arsenal could hand a debut to Henrikh Mkhitaryan following his move from Manchester United last week.

Oliver Giroud may be recalled after overcoming a hamstring injury though Danny Welbeck and Santi Cazorla remain sidelined.

What they said

Swans boss Carlos Carvalhal: "They are one of the best teams in England and one of the best in the world.

“We will fight and try to find the best strategy to block them and, at the same time, try to explore their weak points.

“We’ll fight for the three points, but it will be a very difficult game. We must concentrate and, if we do, we have a chance.”

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: "Liverpool are an attacking team - you cannot criticise them for not attacking, they are very dangerous going forward and they didn't manage to score against Swansea.

"That is a good warning for us that we have to produce absolute total offensive performance."
