Preview: Swans v Liverpool

22nd January
First team

Swansea City will look to maintain the momentum they have built under Carlos Carvalhal when they face Liverpool at the Liberty this evening (8pm).

The Swans head into the game on the back of a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over Wolves in the Emirates FA Cup.

Since their 5-0 defeat at Liverpool on Boxing Day, the Swans have lost only once in five matches and head into the Reds rematch with some confidence.

But Liverpool are in formidable form, having stretched their unbeaten run to 18 games following their 4-3 win over league leaders Manchester City last time out.

Team news

Mike van der Hoorn is fit to feature for the Swans, while Renato Sanches has a chance of returning after missing the last two games.

The Swans are waiting on Tammy Abraham, while Angel Rangel is close to a comeback.

Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk could be in contention to start for Liverpool after returning to training last week following hamstring injuries.

Dejan Lovren faces a fitness test, but Liverpool are hopeful that Mo Salah will overcome illness in time to feature.

What they said

Jordan Ayew: “We know it’s not going to be easy but with the support we have and the quality in the squad, we know we have to start improving and winning games. We need points and that’s the target.”

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: “We know about the specifics of this game. They are in a good way. It will be different to the game at home.”
