Swansea City Under-21s are in Professional Development League play-off action this evening as they welcome Newcastle United to the Swansea.com Stadium (7pm).

The Swans secured a fourth-place finish in the league table, with the top eight advancing in to the play-offs for a newly introduced play-off schedule between the PDL and Premier League 2.

Swansea finished off their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Sheffield United, with their 1-0 win over Fleetwood Town last week securing their play-off place.

Newcastle finished 21st in Premier League 2 picking up six wins over the course of the campaign.

 

Pre-match views

Coach Anthony Wright: "It's a huge game, and it's a reward for how hard they've worked over the course of the season.

"To have a play-off game at the stadium will also be a great experience and against a tough, Premier League side, we're really looking forward to it.

"We'd love to get as far as we can in the play-offs, but making it here was also one of our main objectives."

Swansea City Under-23s missed the chance to move fourth in Premier League 2 Division Two after going down 4-0 to Newcastle United then the Magpies last visited SA1.

The Swans’ five-match unbeaten run in the competition came to an end as the Magpies claimed victory.

The opening goal came after just 37 seconds with Adam Wilson finding the net from close range, before Yannick Toure's fine solo run culminated in a cross for Rosaire Longelo, who steered home from ten yards.

Elias Sorenson added a third with just over 20 minutes left before he teed up Toure for Newcastle’s fourth.
