Preview | Swansea City v Queens Park Rangers

22nd October
First team
Swansea.com Stadium

Swansea City will be looking to return back to winning ways on home turf when they welcome Queens Park Rangers to the Swansea.com Stadium this evening (7.45pm).

Alan Sheehan's side were defeated in SA1 before the international break, as Leicester City put an end to the Swans' 12-game unbeaten run at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Last time out, Swansea were held to a goalless draw at St. Mary's against Southampton.

Queens Park Rangers, meanwhile, have been in fine form. However, the Hoops' six-game unbeaten run – which included four wins – came to an end on Saturday as they lost 2-1 to Millwall at Loftus Road.

Team news

Manuel Benson

Manuel Benson is a doubt for Swansea City’s Championship clash with Queens Park Rangers.

The winger has picked up a hamstring injury, which kept him out of the draw with Southampton at the weekend.

And head coach Alan Sheehan – who also revealed Zeidane Inoussa was among a small number of players nursing bumps and bruises – will make a late call on the availability of the on-loan Burnley player.

Pre-match views

Alan Sheehan: "QPR are a team that I think have lost one in the last six games, and they've been very tight games.

"I watched some of the games like where they came from behind against Bristol City. It'll be a difficult game but one that obviously we want to be going in and getting points out of.

"Our fans are excellent at home. We want them behind us, they're so important to help us create that tempo, that atmosphere and we understand that we have to give them something as well to get behind us."

Julien Stephan: “Swansea play in a different way (to Millwall) with more short connections and combinations, and play on the floor. They have a good movement collectively.

“Football is always about adaptation. You have your way and how you want to play on the pitch - and it's very important to stay focused on that but you need to have some adjustments each game.

“We must be more efficient against Swansea if we want to have a good result. Swansea are a very good team collectively. They play well, they have good players but all the games in the Championship are difficult.

“We have shown great qualities so we need to continue our process and stay confident.”

Meet the officials

John Busby referee

John Busby will be the man in the middle when Swansea City take on Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday night.

It will be the 14th time the Oxfordshire-based official has overseen a Swans match following his promotion to Select Group 2 in the summer of 2021.

The most recent of those matches was against Birmingham City in September 2025 when the Swans suffered heartbreak as a stoppage-time goal from the hosts gave them the win at St. Andrews.

Busby began his career as an assistant referee and served in the EFL for eight years before switching to the whistle and joining the National List of Referees in 2016.

Tonight, he will be assisted by George Byrne and Mark Russell. Tom Nield will be the fourth official.

Remember the last time?

Swansea City 3 Queens Park Rangers 0

A Christmas cracker of a first-half performance set Swansea City on the way to a dominant Boxing Day victory over Queens Park Rangers at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The Swans found themselves 3-0 up inside 33 minutes, Liam Cullen's brace taking his tally to nine goals for the season before Gonçalo Franco netted his first goal for the club as they ruthlessly took the game to their opponents with and without the ball.

That half-time lead could easily have been greater such was Swansea’s grip on the game, but they were still able to ease to victory in comfort.
