SAINTS PREVIEW 2

Swansea City welcome Southampton to the Swansea.com Stadium for their penultimate home fixture of the 2025-26 Championship campaign.

Vitor Matos' side returned to winning ways last time out at the King Power Stadium thanks to a decisive goal from the league's topscorer, Zan Vipotnik.

They have lost just twice on home soil since Matos' appointments towards the end of November, but the in-form Saints are expected to pose a stern test.

Play-off chasing Southampton - who are still within reach of the automatic promotion places - have gone 18 games unbeaten in all competitions, winning their last seven fixtures in all competitions.

Zeidane Inoussa cele

Vitor Matos has confirmed Ishe Samuels-Smith is set to miss the remainder of the season after returning to Chelsea for treatment on a quad injury.

The defender has missed the last two games with the problem, and is not expected to be available for the Swans final run-in as the Chelsea medical team handle his recovery.

Zeidane Inoussa will not be risked after feeling minor discomfort in his back, while Josh Key and Ethan Galbraith are sidelined.

Pre-match views

Vitor Matos: "Southampton is probably the best team in the league at the moment, they have a great squad and are able to rotate but have the same performance level.

"They are really organised with the ball, they like to overload the centre of the pitch as a means to break the lines.

"They press very well too, they make it uncomfortable for their opponents and they have a good manager.

"They are in a good moment, but that is good for us because it is a chance for us to show we want to play, perform and beat anyone."

Tonda Eckert: "They are an excellent team in possession. If you look at the output that you need to go to Swansea, it will be the highest of the season.

"It demands the most intense distance that you need to cover. We need to be so sharp in the way that we defend.

"We have quality on the pitch to hurt them down the other end, but the key thing for us is that we are spot on in the way we press.

"It's one of the toughest places to go to. It's not necessarily a hostile environment, but they are a team that knows exactly what they do.

"They play to their strengths, and it will be a big, big challenge for us on Saturday."

Meet the officials

Oliver Langford will be the man in the middle when Swansea City host Southampton at the Swansea.com Stadium this afternoon.

Langford is now in his 15th season as a Football League referee, having made his debut in August 2008 in the League Two clash between Rochdale and Barnet.

This will be the second Swansea City fixture he's taken charge of this season, having officiated the Swans' 2-1 win over Wrexham in December.

This season he has had the whistle for 26 games, handing out 85 yellow cards and five reds.

He will be assisted by Johnathon Bickerdike and Mark Russell. Martin Wood will be the fourth official.

Swansea City 1 Southampton 3

Four first-half goals settled the outcome as Swansea City fell to defeat against Southampton when the Saints last visited the Swansea.com Stadium.

The visitors, who were seeking to break a club record for games without defeat, surged into an early lead thanks to goals from Che Adams and Will Smallbone, although the second of those should not have stood as a clear offside was missed in the build-up.

Jamie Paterson’s sixth goal of the season got one back for the Swans, but Flynn Downes fired home just a couple of minutes later to make it 3-1 at the interval and there was no further score in the second period.
