Swansea City Women vs Cardiff

Swansea City host rivals Cardiff City in the Genero Adran Trophy quarter-finals this afternoon at Llandarcy (2pm).

The Swans will be aiming for their first win over the Bluebirds this season, having fallen short in both league meetings so far.

They come into the tie on a positive note following a convincing 5-1 victory over Pontypridd United last weekend.

Cardiff, meanwhile, saw their fixture at Briton Ferry postponed last week due to stadium damage, but were held to a 3-3 draw by TNS the week before, fighting back from 3-1 down with Laura Curnock scoring a 104th-minute equaliser.

Swansea reached the final of this competition last season, ultimately losing to The New Saints - who also eliminated Cardiff at the quarter-final stage.

Yzzy Taylor

Head coach Yzzy Taylor: "Last weekend was a positive display from our perspective. It has enabled us to have a great week in training and prepare well for this weekend's fixture.

"Each week we are learning and looking to improve in the following game. The squad take information on superbly well and are always looking to grow and develop. Last time out against Cardiff I believe that we performed well for the majority of the game so will be looking to do much of the same this weekend.

"Cup football is always exciting, and personally I feel that we have a squad that can do very well in any competition that we enter.

"It will be important this weekend that we take chances when they are created for us and continue to be ready to solve problems when we need to. We are looking forward to the game as a group and hope that we can progress into the next round."

Celebration for Aimee Deacon's goal vs Cardiff

Swansea City Women suffered their first defeat in six matches back in November as Cardiff City scored three second half goals to defeat the Swans 3-1 at the Swansea.com Stadium.

The Swans took the lead through Aimee Deacon just 11 minutes into the second half after a cross into the area from Emily Thomas was turned in by the forward at the near post.

Stacey John then had a great chance to double the lead after a delivery from Chloe Chivers found the midfielder, but she was unable to divert his effort target and went wide of the post.

Cardiff would find an equaliser nine minutes later when Helen Evans steered home at the near post after some good work between Mikayla Cook and Lily Billingham.

Taite Trivett nearly restored Swansea's lead when a low volley was blocked by goalkeeper Grace Olsen, but Cardiff would take advantage after a Cook set-piece flew high into the net before Billingham would add a third for the visitors in added time.
