Swans Women vs TNS

Swansea City Women host The New Saints this afternoon in their final home game of the Genero Adran Premier at the Swansea.com Stadium (2pm kick-off).

It will also mark the final time Swans stalwarts Steph Turner and Stacey John take to the pitch at the stadium, following the announcement of their retirements at the end of the season. Both players will receive a guard of honour before kick-off and will be presented with framed shirts after the match, with supporters encouraged to stay for the presentations and celebrate their contribution to Swansea City.

Swansea will be looking for a strong response following Wednesday’s 7-1 defeat to Wrexham. With third place already secured, the Swans will be aiming to finish the domestic campaign strongly ahead of a Bute Energy Welsh Cup final against Cardiff City in April.

The New Saints have confirmed a fourth-place finish but arrive in SA1 searching for their first win of the phase two campaign, having lost their last four league matches.

Yzzy Taylor’s side will be hoping to make it a fourth win of the season against the Saints, in what has been a high-scoring fixture, with 13 goals across the previous three meetings.

Yzzy Taylor

Head coach Yzzy Taylor: “We need to respond after Wednesday. I don’t think we gave the best account of ourselves against Wrexham. We’ve spoken all year about performances and how we want to be proud of what we put out on the pitch, so we’ve prepared well ahead of Sunday and we’ll make sure we deliver that performance.

“We’ve got a lot to celebrate this season. We’re still in a cup final, which is something we’re really looking forward to and building towards. Since the start of the season, we’ve made a lot of progress. There’s still more we can improve on, but as a group I couldn’t be prouder and I believe we’ve represented the club really well.

“It’s important to build towards the final, but we have to take it one game at a time. We’ve got TNS on Sunday before travelling to Wrexham next week, which are both really important games. Even with the final in sight, our focus has to be on the game in front of us.

“It’s always a special occasion to play at the stadium and to have our friends and family there. To be able to celebrate the careers of Steph Turner and Stacey John will be a really nice moment and something we’re all looking forward to.”

Chloe Chivers vs TNS

A quartet of stunning goals from Chloe Chivers, along with a late finish from Eilish Mitchell, secured a 5-2 victory for Swansea City Women over The New Saints in their first game of phase two in the Genero Adran Premier at Park Hall.

The Swans took the lead inside three minutes as Chivers’ trademark 25-yard free kick crashed off the crossbar before bouncing down and over the line beyond goalkeeper Orla Howard.

The lead did not last long, however. A corner from Kelsey Richardson was initially cleared, but Tiggy Webb reacted quickest to fire a first-time effort goalwards, with a deflection taking it beyond Amelia Forkings.

Chances continued to fall for the visitors, with Aimee Deacon going close twice, but Swansea’s bright start paid off again as Chivers restored the lead in stunning fashion, curling a superb 35-yard free kick over Howard and into the net.

Chivers then completed her hat-trick a minute before half-time in sensational style, unleashing another long-range effort that flew past Howard to cap off one of the finest hat-tricks you’re likely to see.

The Saints started the second half brightly and pulled a goal back within seven minutes of the restart. Lexie Harrison slipped Chantelle Teare through on goal, and the forward used her pace to beat Jess Williams before firing past Forkings.

However, the Swans restored their two-goal cushion with 10 minutes remaining. Another Chivers free kick struck the crossbar, but the rebound fell kindly for Mitchell, who guided a header past Howard to make it 4-2.

Chivers rounded off a sensational individual performance in the 90th minute, firing home her fourth of the game from 25 yards after being played in by Sammy Wynne, sealing a dominant victory for Swansea.
