Swansea City skipper Angel Rangel is expected to return to first-team training in six weeks following successful surgery.

The Spaniard went under the knife in London on Monday to cure a groin problem, and he is set to play a part in the club’s Premier League run-in after the successful procedure.

Rangel, named captain of the club in November, has made just six appearances this season with a combination of injury and Kyle Naughton’s form limiting his game-time.

A fan favourite, the 35-year-old has made 364 appearances for the club – scoring 10 goals – since joining the Swans in 2007 from Spanish third-tier club Terrassa.

Leroy Fer, meanwhile, has undergone successful surgery on his Achilles.

The Dutchman was stretchered off after 34 minutes of the Swans’ draw at Leicester earlier this month.

The 28-year-old, who has scored three times in 26 appearances this season, is set to miss the rest of the campaign.

Wilfried Bony, who is also sidelined for the season, is due to have surgery after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in the same game while Leon Britton has had treatment on his groin injury.
