Rangel's Welsh words of wisdom

15th October

Angel Rangel joined Swansea City in 2007 speaking not a word of English – now he’s helping promote the Welsh language.

The Swans right-back, who is close to making 300 league appearances for the Swans, welcomed pupils from Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryntawe to the club’s training ground in Fairwood to celebrate Shwmae Su’mae Day, which is a fun way to share the Welsh language.

“It is a great opportunity to help promote the Welsh language, and I was delighted to meet the pupils – I could sense just how passionate they are about speaking Welsh,” said Rangel.

“I know how important it is to speak more than one languages and the benefits from it. I couldn't speak a word of English when I arrived in Swansea, now I can speak English and a little bit of Welsh now. I really enjoyed being tested by the pupils on my Welsh language.

“Everyone who speaks Welsh are very proud to do so, and I hope more people will take up the language.”
