Swansea City Women v Cardiff

Swansea City Women suffered their first defeat of the season as they were beaten by Cardiff City Women at the Cardiff City Stadium.

First-half goals from Mackenzie Olden, Laura Curnock and Mikayla Cook earned the hosts derby-day bragging rights in front of a crowd of 818.

It was a tough first half for Swansea, as Cardiff raced into a three-goal lead inside 33 minutes, while the Swans saw their own attacking opportunities limited.

The second half saw a stronger showing from the Swans, but they were unable to reduce the deficit.

The visitors made the worst possible start when a ball over the top saw Cook race down the left-flank, before squaring the ball for Olden to tap in from close-range after three minutes.

The Swans began to see more of the ball as the half progressed, but fell two goals behind inside 26 minutes when Curnock converted from the penalty spot after being brought down in the box by Maisie Miller.

The hosts extended their lead further seven minutes later. Olden broke down the left and crossed for Cook, who fired past Amelia Forkings.

The Swans carved out a chance five minutes before half-time when Chloe Chivers’ corner was cleared back to her. She drove into the box, but her effort flew over the bar.

Chivers continued to pose a threat in the second half, unleashing a powerful strike from distance, but Ceryn Chamberlain gathered safely.

Chances were limited for both sides in the second half, though Emily Richards went close with a long-range free-kick that narrowly cleared Chamberlain’s crossbar.

The hosts created two big chances to extend their lead in the final 10 minutes, but Forkings produced excellent saves to deny both Ffion Price and Olden, keeping the deficit at three.
