Katy Hosford struck a hat-trick as Swansea City Ladies claimed all three points in their first away match of 2021 with a handsome win over Cascade YC at Ystrad Mynach.

The Swans went into the break three goals to the good thanks to two goals from Katy Hosford and one from Kelly Adams.

Hosford completed her treble and rounded off another convincing win for Swansea in the second half with a thunderous finish.

The victory moves the defending Welsh Premier Women’s League champions to the top of the table; leading second placed Cardiff Met by three points.

It took the Swans almost no time at all to take the lead; Hosford found the back of the net from a free-kick, lobbing Cascade keeper Hollie Williams in the process.

Hosford nearly bagged an early brace after a slick one-two between her and Stacey John-Davis, but Williams was equal to the effort.

However, the visitors soon doubled their advantage after Chloe Chivers played a long through ball in to find Adams, who remained calm and rolled it into the back of the net.

Hosford put the game to bed with just over half an hour on the clock; a move that was started by Chivers allowed John-Davis the opportunity to drill the ball into the box, which the winger then bundled home.

Swansea were creating chances almost at will, and John-Davis very nearly added to the goal tally, but the striker was denied by the near post.

Possession was dominated by the Swans throughout the opening 45 minutes, and it was no different in the second half.

Hosford, in the hunt for her hat-trick, tried her luck with a low drilled shot, but -unfortunately for the winger - Williams was able to react to the effort.

John-Davis looked to get in on the act as she created a yard of space for herself, but her strike from the centre of the area was denied by Williams who dived to her left promptly.

Hosford secured her hat-trick after she found herself in acres of space on the left flank and she made no mistake in firing past the keeper at the near post.

It was nearly high fives all around for the Swans after a short pass across the face of goal from Adams issued John-Davies with a superb chance, but it was hit straight at the keeper.
