The Swans face yet another Emirates FA Cup replay after being held to a goalless draw by Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Carlos Carvalhal returned to his former club but saw his side forced into their third successive cup replay after the Swans failed to break down the Owls in a fifth-round tie short of opportunities.

The visitors were dealt a blow in the warm-up after Alfie Mawson hobbled off with a knee injury, a setback which saw Kyle Naughton start in defence.

Carvalhal's rearguard was tested within the opening two minutes, with captain Adam Reach racing onto a through ball. He closed in on goal, but keeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt did well to swat his effort wide for a corner.

At the other end, Naughton saw his volley deflected wide before his cross found Mike van der Hoorn, but the Dutchman's header from point-blank range was tipped over by Cameron Dawson.

After the break, the game followed the same pattern as neither side created any real clear-cut chances.

Nathan Dyer did set up fellow substitute Jordan Ayew, who shot low and straight at Dawson.

Skipper Kyle Bartley had a good chance to put his team ahead, but he failed to properly connect with Tom Carroll's free-kick.

The draw means the Swans will welcome the Owls to the Liberty, knowing they beat both Wolves and Notts County in return games to advance in the competition.
