A five-star performance saw Swansea City Women make the perfect start to 2024 and reach the semi-finals of the Genero Adran Trophy with victory over Cardiff Met Women.

Katy Hosford opened the scoring for the Swans, turning in the box before producing a cool finish.

Stacey John-Davis doubled the lead from the spot after Hosford was brought down in the box, before Robyn Pinder’s stunning strike made it 3-0 just before the break.

A second-half double from Chloe Chivers would round off the scoring, with the midfielder dispatching a calm finish past the keeper before adding her second from distance just four minutes later.

It made it 10 wins from the last 11 games for the Swans, and was a fine way to start the new year following a brief break from action over the festive period.

The Swans dominated from the off and had the chance to go ahead early, John-Davis latching onto the end of a good ball from Rachel Cullen, but her effort was fired just wide.

Hosford then got away a low stroke four minutes later that forced a great save from Carys Gittins.

John-Davis came close again soon after, a great ball from Sammy Wynne putting the forward through to poke past the keeper, but Tiggeraa Webb was on hand to clear off the line.

However, the Swans would make their early pressure pay as Wynne found Hosford on the edge of the box, allowing the captain to turn before firing home from close range to give her side a deserved lead.

Hosford would break through again 10 minutes later, but was brought down by Gittins in the box to earn her side a penalty. John-Davis stepped up to the spot and, while Gittins got a hand to her effort, the ball found the back of the net and Swansea’s lead was doubled.

Three minutes later it would be 3-0, Pinder worked room on the edge of the box before sending a stunning strike into the top-left corner to give the Swans a commanding lead after 30 minutes.

Lucy Finch came close to making it four just before the break, her long-range effort cannoned off the crossbar to deny the defender her first goal of the season.

The Swans continued to threaten early in the second half, Hosford breaking down the left and finding John-Davis in space, but the forward couldn’t convert.

But Chivers made no mistake when given the chance to get herself on the scoresheet, Sophie Brisland-Hancocks found the forward in the box and she finished with a minimum of fuss.

Just four minutes later Chivers would have her second, Wynne picked her out in space before she coolly tucked a low effort into the bottom-left corner to round off the scoring as the Swansea sealed their place in the last four.
