Swansea City Women eased to an emphatic 7-1 victory in a dominant display against Barry Town United Women at the Swansea.com Stadium.

A hat-trick from Chloe Chivers, a brace from Emily Thomas, and further goals from Stacey John and Taite Trivett thrilled the home crowd, with four of the seven strikes coming from outside the area.

Yzzy Taylor’s side controlled proceedings throughout the 90 minutes, and the seven-goal haul saw Swansea move to 45 league goals from just 13 matches this season.

It was a quick start from the hosts, with Chivers looking to test Barry keeper Molly Arnesen from distance but her effort flew well wide of the post.

That early attempt did not deter the midfielder, and just minutes later Chivers struck again from a similar position, this time finding the net from 30 yards as she fired past Arnesen to open the scoring.

Swansea doubled their lead in the 10th minute when an Ellie Lake cross was met by Aimee Deacon, whose header was superbly saved onto the post by Arnesen. However, the rebound fell kindly to Stacey John, who reacted quickest to tap home from close range.

Chivers almost added her second during a sustained spell of pressure as a free kick from just beyond the halfway line dipped dangerously under the bar, forcing Arnesen to scramble back and tip the ball over before the danger was cleared.

The Swans showed no signs of easing off and added a third inside 23 minutes when Trivett drove down the left and unleashed a powerful strike from 25 yards, sending the ball flying past Arnesen.

Trivett continued to threaten down the left flank, beating her marker and delivering a superb ball into the six-yard area which was met by John, but her effort crashed against the crossbar to deny her a second goal in a blistering opening spell for the hosts.

Arnesen remained busy late in the half, producing two important saves to deny Deacon and keep the deficit to three heading into the break.

The Swans came flying out of the blocks after the restart and added their fourth in the 48th minute. Maddie Murray won the ball high up the pitch before slipping Chloe Chivers through on goal, and the forward made no mistake as she fired past Arnesen for her second of the match.

The hosts continued to dominate proceedings and kept creating chances, with Lake going close to making it three goals in as many games for the defender, though her strike from distance was straight at Arnesen.

Another superb effort followed soon after, as substitute Thomas lobbed Arnesen from the byline with a remarkable finish.

With 15 minutes remaining, Chivers completed her hat-trick in style, firing home from just outside the area to cap another outstanding individual display.

The visitors managed to pull one back shortly after as substitute Lauren Payne delivered a ball into the area and, following a scramble in the box, the ball found its way past Amelia Forkings.

Swansea had the final say in the closing minute of normal time when a Trivett corner was met by a superb header from Thomas, who guided the ball past substitute goalkeeper Emily Blunt to round off a dominant performance from the Swans.
