Roberts: Swans must build on victory

Connor Roberts wants Swansea City to build on their excellent start to 2019 by using victory at Reading to kick-start a strong run of results.

The Swans had endured a frustrating festive period, taking just one point from fixtures against Hull, Aston Villa and Wigan.

But they bounced back in fine style at the Madejski Stadium with a 4-1 win on New Year's Day.

Roberts was among the scorers on being restored to the starting line-up, having been rested for the draw with Wigan.

Oli McBurnie's brace and Mike van der Hoorn's second goal in as many games completed the scoring for the Swans.

And, in a season where Swansea have not shown the consistency they would like, the Wales international hopes Graham Potter's men can kick on from here.

“At the end of the day we want to perform well. We were disappointed not to get more points during the Christmas period," said the Swans Academy product.

“I think we can move on from that now and look to move forward and win a few more.

“We have not let ourselves get too down with the results, but we knew we needed to start the year with a win and look to build from there.

“Tuesday’s win will give us great confidence going forward and, if we can perform like we did in the first half and keep working together, I think there will be a few more scorelines like we delivered.

“We are still only part way through a marathon season. Anyone can beat anyone in this league so we have to keep working hard and look to win as many points as possible."
