Russell Martin has warned his Swansea City side their Good Friday fixture against Coventry City cannot be a case of “after the Lord Mayor’s show” in the wake of their derby win at Cardiff.

The head coach sees his team return to action at the Swansea.com Stadium on the back of an unforgettable afternoon at the Cardiff City Stadium, as Ben Cabango netted a 99th-minute winner to seal a 3-2 victory.

The goal sparked delirious celebrations among players, staff and supporters as they made more south Wales derby history with a fourth win in a row in the fixture.

But Martin insists it is time to park the celebrations and focus on taking on a Coventry side who had been on an excellent run of form prior to their defeat to Stoke last time out; and the Sky Blues are firmly in the play-off mix.

“It can’t be a case of after the Lord Mayor’s Show,” said the Swans boss.

“We have to want more and I hope we can bring the energy and feeling from the last two games and use it to put together a run of performances and results.

“I want to see the team continue to grow, I want to see the young players continue to play as they have been playing, with real bravery and courage, and win as many games as we can.

“We are in a good position to finish strongly, at some point we will need to give some people an opportunity to get on the pitch and show what they can do.

“We are not there yet, but we want to win games and finish strong with everyone pulling together and everyone feeling positive about the future.

“We have to finish strongly because it will feed into a lot of other areas ahead of what is a big summer for the football club.

“We have a platform to build off and we have to continue to build from that. We have to keep showing the same courage and intensity, and then we have a good chance to finish strong.

“The celebrations are done from last weekend, we are ready for the next challenge, we have good energy and look fresh.”
