Swansea City Women's midfielder Sammy Wynne was pleased with how the Swans managed difficult spells during their 3-1 victory over Briton Ferry Llansawel Women to round off phase one with a victory at the Renewable Centre Stadium.

Wynne opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a smart finish from outside the area - her second goal in four matches - having netted her first of the season against CPDM Llanystumdwy in the Welsh Cup.

Ferry responded quickly through a Lucy Powell penalty, and the remainder of the first half proved cagey, but second-half goals from Aimee Deacon and Taite Trivett secured all three points and ensured the Swans rounded off phase one on a high.

The result leaves Swansea third on 30 points, four behind Sunday’s opponents Wrexham and five adrift of leaders Cardiff City.

Wynne was pleased to end phase one on a high and admitted there will be tests ahead, but is confident the Swans can raise their quality as they enter a challenging phase two run.

“Overall it was a really positive evening for us. It’s always difficult playing midweek after a Sunday fixture, especially coming here to Ferry where you know they’ll make it tough. We started strongly in the first 10 minutes but probably limped through the remainder of the half after conceding," explained Wynne.

"We spoke at half-time that we needed to come out on the front foot, and I think we did that. We made the second half much more comfortable for ourselves, so it was a really good win to round off phase one.

"We can’t always be at our best, so sometimes it’s important to grind out results. We know that’s something we’ll have to do in phase two because it’s going to be really tough. We need to be able to ride out difficult periods like we did at times today, but also show quality when we have the ball - and we can take confidence from that heading into phase two.

"I’m pleased to get on the scoresheet. I think we could have had a couple more early on, but it was nice to contribute and help the team start strongly.

"The next few days will be about recovery. We’ll be back in tomorrow with plenty of information to take on ahead of Sunday. You’ve already played these teams a few times, but we know Wrexham have made additions to their squad so they may look different to when we last faced them.

"We believe in ourselves. A couple of wins can put us right back in the title race, so we’ll keep fighting until the end. To do that, we have to win the games in front of us - starting with Wrexham on Sunday.”
