Shelvey hails Montero after flying start

Jonjo Shelvey hailed the performance of Jefferson Montero after the winger's dazzling start to the season.
Montero drew a number of plaudits after an impressive display against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on the opening weekend, while the Ecuador international was again pivotal as the Swans secured a 2-0 win over Newcastle last Saturday.
The winger was again an influential figure against the Magpies, causing numerous problems down the left flank - which concluded in a first-half red card for defender Daryl Janmaat.
And Shelvey - who himself produced another eye-catching performance - heaped praise on Montero for his flying start to the campaign.
"We know Jeff has that in his locker," he said. "He had a number of games last season where he was outstanding and he's done the same again in these first two matches.
"We hope he can continue what he's doing at the moment because we just get the ball to him and he does his thing.
"Obviously we were a bit fortunate with the sending off because that made it a lot easier for us, but we stuck to the game plan and ran out worthy winners in the end."
Meanwhile, Shelvey added that he hopes his own performances can help him win a recall to the England squad.
The former Liverpool midfielder won his only senior cap to date in a World Cup qualifier against San Marino in 2012, while England face the same opponents in their Euro 2016 qualifying group on September 5.
"I feel a lot better in myself," he said. "I went away in the summer and worked hard and its just about maintaing that now, listening to the manager and trying to improve.
"It's everyone's dream to play for their country and hopefully I can keep putting in those types of performances for Roy Hodgson to put me in his squad."
