'Spirit will see us through'

Mike van der Hoorn reckons Swansea City’s spirit will be key as they head into the most important week of the season.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side are in 17th place in the Premier League on 33 points – one point above the relegation zone – going into their final three games of the campaign.

The first of those comes this weekend when the Swans travel to the Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth, where a third away league win of the season would be a huge boost to their chances of survival.

Despite the Swans' precarious position, van der Hoorn says spirits within the camp are high - and has urged his team-mates to replicate their home form on the road as the campaign reaches its climax.

“This week is the most important of the season,” the central defender said. “We’re very focused and confident we can survive.

“It’s still in our hands but we have to perform on Saturday because things can quickly turn around with it being so tight at the bottom. We can’t afford to be too relaxed and have to treat the match like a cup final.

“We seem to hold back more away from home. I think we want to change that and be more aggressive like we are at home.

“I think our team spirit is very good. We are one big group and it makes you feel like family, which will serve us well until the end of the season.”
