Steve Cooper believes Morgan Whittaker can be pleased with his recent contribution, and is confident the striker can have a big future at Swansea City.

Whittaker joined the Swans from Derby in January, and marked his debut with a fine volleyed finish in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester City.

He also enjoyed a lively cameo in the defeat at Bournemouth, before starting against Cardiff.

While the 20-year-old could not find the net on his full debut, he showed a desire to keep getting into the right positions and get away shots on goal.

And head coach Cooper believes those attributes point to plenty of positives for player and club.

“Morgan has done well, we fancied him on some of those chances against Cardiff because he is good with his left foot,” said the Swansea boss.

“He will be ruing a few of them, but overall - given it was his first start - I thought it was positive for him and there’s a lot he will gain from that experience.

“He, and we, have got to build on that and try and help make him an important player for us moving forward.

“He is a young player, so we won’t get carried away, but he should be pleased with his work.

“He does come inside to areas well, and he gives us another attacking option to choose from.

“We see him as being one for the future, and we don’t want to put too much pressure on him, but he has shown a number of positive signs.”
