The Stadium of Light is situated on the banks of the River Wear, on the outskirts of Sunderland City centre. Its location makes it easily accessible by all means of public transport.

By train

Sunderland train station, in the city centre is a 15-minute walk from the ground. On exiting the station, turn left into High Street West and left again into Fawcett Street. Cross the bridge and turn left into Millennium Way. The away turnstiles are straight ahead. The "Stadium of Light" and "St. Peters" Metro stations both serve the stadium. Away supporters should alight at St. Peters, nearer the away end. Please note that after the match, only Northbound (towards Newcastle) trains can be caught at the Stadium of Light station, while St. Peters only operates Southbound (towards Sunderland centre).

By car

Take junction 4a off the M5 and head onto the M42. At junction 11 continue forward onto the A42 and stay in the right hand lane and join the M1. Leave the M1 at junction 32 and take the M18 turning off at junction 2 to join the A1(M). Continue forward onto the A1 and then the A1(M). At Dishforth Interchange (Junction 49) continue forward onto the A1. Then, 23 miles later, at Scotch Corner continue forward onto the A1(M). Take junction 62, then at the roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A690. Head for the A1231 and then A1018 (South Shields) before approaching A1018. The ground will be less than a mile away.

Park and ride
Sunderland also offers a park and ride scheme which is free for both home and away supporters. The scheme runs from the Sunderland Enterprise Park on the Wessington Way (A1231) which is just off the A19 and well signposted.

By air
The nearest airport is Newcastle, some 24 miles away. The journey is straightforward as both the Stadium Of Light and Newcastle Airport are both served by the Metro system, with frequent connections. Journey time is about an hour.
