Paul Clement was impressed with Roque Mesa’s first run out as a Swan during the friendly defeat at Barnet on Wednesday night.

The Spaniard, who joined from Las Palmas last week, came on for the final 20 minutes at The Hive, with Clement handing the midfielder some valuable minutes ahead of the club’s three-game tour of America.

And the Swans boss was happy with his new recruit’s brief first performance in the club’s opening friendly.

“He gave us a nice rhythm when he came on,” said Clement, who also saw Dutch keeper play the full 90 minutes.

“He used the ball well and we were fluent in our play.

“He wasn’t ready to play any more than he did because he had to go back to Gran Canaria to get his things, which meant he hasn’t trained much with us.

“But it was a positive start for him.”
