Swans fans to line up alongside celebrity stars
22nd May
Swans fans Rees Williams and Daniel Tucker will be going toe-to-toe with celebrities in next Sunday's (May 31) SwansAid charity match at the Liberty Stadium.
Williams, 19, from Dunvant and Tucker, 25, from Ravenhill, have been handed the opportunity to take to the pitch after the pair beat off competition from other listeners on The Wave and Swansea Sound radio stations to feature for 15 minutes alongside celebrities such as Jake Quickenden, Shane Williams and Adam Woodyatt.
Rees, who has just finished his last exam at the University of Gloucestershire, admits he couldn't have ever imagined he would play at the Liberty Stadium.
"I'm delighted to have won it," said Rees. "It is a fantastic prize, and to be given this opportunity is brilliant. It is great to be involved with it!"
"I'm as big a Swans fan as they come. My first game was back in 2002 when I watched the Swans narrowly beat Bournemouth. It will be a dream come true to play here - I can't wait!
"My friends and family thought I was joking when I told them I would be playing. They didn't believe me, but they are all going to come down and support and hopefully see me score a goal.
"I'm looking forward to playing with Lee Trundle. I watched him here for a long time so to play alongside or against him will be great."
Tucker, meanwhile, was equally excited to take part in May's big event after applying through Swansea Sound's Facebook competition.
"I am so excited to play in the celebrity match here at the Liberty Stadium," he said. "It is a great opportunity for average people to rub shoulders with the stars and be involved with such a big event.
"When I won I could not believe it. I broke down in tears.
"I play Sunday league football, but because of family commitments I have just finished my last season.
"So to play my last pro per game, even for just 15 minutes, at the Liberty Stadium will be a dream ending."
The Wave and Swansea Sound senior programme controller Steve Barnes said:
"It is a great prize for two of our listeners to win. Working with Swansea City on this competition has been fantastic.
"We are so proud to be a part of the SwansAid celebs match, helping raise money for local charities and community groups throughout our local area.
"On top of being involved with this competition we will be involved with the day itself broadcasting on the morning of the match.
"It is going to be a fantastic day with some great celebs taking part and a fan park full of entertainment.
"Don't forget to come down and support those taking part and cheer on our local superfans."
