Swans get the Fitbit habit

28th May
The Swans squad now has no escape from the prying eyes of the club's medical staff thanks to an innovative new lifestyle health device.
The club teamed up with Fitbit, a market leader in digital health and fitness, to trial the latest Flex-Wireless Wristband Activity Tracker.
A selection of the players wore the Fitbit tracker around their wrist for the latter part of last season. It not only tracked their every step, including distance, intensity and calories burnt, but also the hours and quality of their sleep pattern.
Fitbit doesn't snooze, even when the player does, as it feeds backs data to an online computer dashboard or mobile app. The information is then synchronised together and graphs reveal all the key data.
It certainly seemed to have the desired effect as the Swans won three of their last four games to secure their Barclays Premier League status with a 12th place finish.
Swans physio, Richard Buchanan, said: "The backroom staff are always looking for ways that can help us gain a small one per cent advantages over our rivals in the way we prepare and recover players for matches and training sessions, while also attempting to minimise the risk of preventable injuries.
"Utilising the Fitbit devices has allowed us and the players themselves to monitor activity levels away from the training ground, together with sleep length and quality which are all key factors relating to injury prevention and the mental and physical capability to perform at their peak."
