Swans Ladies draw opening match in America

22nd June

Swansea City Ladies were held to a draw in their opening game of their US pre-season tour.
Early opportunities from Swansea's attack saw chances from Emma Beynon and Jodie Passmore denied by the Spartans' keeper.
The Swans duo came close again shortly after the half hour mark when a Passmore free-kick hit the post only for Beynon to see her rebound saved by the Jersey keeper.
At the other end some controlled play from Lowri Ridings and excellent tackles from Sarah Adams helped the Swans keep the score level.
Swansea took the lead with an outstanding free-kick from Passmore in the 36th minute. The striker came close to scoring her second of the match soon after only for her strike to go wide.
Jersey United had a chance to level just before the interval but Amanda John was on hand to head the ball away.
After the break, a free-kick from Jersey United narrowly missed the woodwork, whilst Gemma Border went close to extending the Swans lead. At the other end, a superb headed clearance off the line from Ria Hughes kept the Swans lead intact.
The home side did equalise on the 65th minute when a Jersey United a free-kick from just outside the area found the back of the net.
Some excellent attacking play from the Swans including an impressive run from Katie Davies and some good play from Megan Franks added pressure on the Spartans defence late on before the full time whistle confirmed a 1-1 draw.
