Swans Ladies hit the goal trail

22nd August

Swansea City Ladies ended their 2016/17 pre-season preparations with a superb 8-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth Ladies.
The Swans started well and applied pressure on the visitors from the start with some excellent efforts from Emma Beynon and great runs from Stacey John.
Katy Hosford hit the crossbar in the seventh minute before her headed effort looped over.
Hosford broke the deadlock in the final minute of the first half with a well-hit shot from the left flank to give the Swans the lead going into the break.
Immediately after the break, Bournemouth had an opportunity to level, but saw their effort rattle the woodwork.
Emma Beynon doubled the home side's lead in the 46th minute with a great shot from the edge of the box which proved too powerful for Bournemouth's keeper.
Beynon scored her second of the match in the 52nd minute with a close-range effort before Hosford slotted home with a low shot following a great run down the left flank in the 55th minute.
Soon after, a superb run and pass from Stacey John reached Kelly Newcombe and she fired home an excellent strike in the 57th minute to make it 5-0.
At the other end, Swans keeper Ffion Ashman pulled off a good save to prevent the visitors from scoring a consolation goal.
Midfielder Sophie Hancocks managed to extend the Swans' lead with a cross-come-shot before Lowri Ridings scored from close range in the 72nd minute.
Beynon completed her hat-trick soon after with an excellent strike to seal an 8-0 victory for Ian Owen's side.
"Although it took us nearly all of the first half to score the first goal, I thought we played really good football," said scorer Hancocks. "We were on times causing our own problems because we were giving away the ball but overall I think it was a really good game.
"I really think this pre-season has been successful. The tour in New York was good as we learned a lot and gained experience. Our games against Swindon and Bournemouth have been really positive, so it's given us a lot to take into our season."

Swans Ladies: Courtney Young (Ffion Ashman 45), Lowri Ridings, Ria Hughes, Courtney Harries, Molly Cana (Charlotte Phillips 54), Kelly Newcombe, Sarah Adams, Emma Beynon, Sophie Hancocks, Katy Hosford, Stacey John (Courtney Thomas 59).

Swans Ladies now turn their attention to their first league game in the Welsh Premier Women's League against Abergavenny Women on Sunday, September 4.
