Swans lose final US pre-season match

27th June

Swansea City Ladies suffered a 6-1 defeat to New Jersey Voorhees Soccer Association in their final game of their US pre-season tour.
Despite a bright start from the Swans that saw Sarah Adams free-kick kept out, the Voorhees took the lead in the sixth minute when a low show found its way past Kate Brisland.
Injury to the Swans keeper saw Ffion Ashman replace Brisland in goal before New Jersey doubled their lead in the 24th minute before the home side added a third with a superb strike from outside the box in the top right-hand corner.
The Swans tested the Voorhees keeper with some excellent crosses from Katy Hosford and a fine effort from Sarah Adams before Ashman made a great save to prevent the Voorhees from strengthening their lead.
In the second half Swans winger Hosford continued to pressurise New Jersey down the flanks, her cross was denied once again by the Voorhees keeper.
Both sides hit the woodwork in search of goals, but it was the home side who extended their lead in the 76th minute to make it 4-0.
New Jersey extended their lead from the penalty spot in the 84th minute before Sarah Adams pulled a goal back for the Swans with an impressive free-kick.
But, New Jersey were awarded a second penalty in the final minutes of the match following a foul inside the area by Alicia Powe which saw the Swans captain sent off.
The spot kick hit the crossbar before the Voorhees netted their sixth on the rebound.
