Swans Soccer schools help identify young talent

1st February

With half-term just two weeks away, soccer schools are back this February at 14 locations across South Wales.
Qualified football coaches from Swansea City and the club's Community Trust schools project will be on hand to deliver football sessions during the five days to help young players develop their skills.
Jamie Thomas, pre-academy and schools development coach with Swans academy, believes the schools offer young players the chance to get spotted by Swansea City.
"In the last year we have had around eight or nine young players who have come through a soccer school into the Swansea City pre-academy set-up," he said.
"On top of that, around 40 young players have been invited to our development centres to get more training from Swansea City coaches.
"We rely on our soccer schools and Saturday morning 'turn up and play' sessions as a tool to identify new talent which helps us find the next generation of footballers from the local area.
"There are so many opportunities and routes a player could progress by being part of one of our soccer schools this half term.
"Our main priority is that our players have fun. We want to help give them the skills to help shape them into a good footballers and people. If they are good enough, we can help them progress into the Swans Academy ranks."
The camps are open to boys and girls of all abilities from age five to 13 and run from Monday, February 15 to Friday, February 19 at a cost of £10 per session.
Continuing our dedication to female football, two days of girls-only camps will also take place at Cwmdu Development Centre on Wednesday, February 17 and Friday, February 19 (1pm-5pm).
