Swans stars to do battle in Brazil?

6th December

Several Swans stars will be hoping they can book their seats on the planes to Brazil after the groups for the FIFA World Cup 2014 were drawn this afternoon.

Wilfried Bony, Jonathan de Guzman, Michel Vorm, Michu and Jonjo Shelvey are among the Swans vying for spots in their respective national team squads, and they will all be hoping they can impress their national team managers, between now and the summer tournament.

Bony's Ivory Coast have been drawn in Group C with Colombia, Greece and Japan, while de Guzman and Vorm could be set to go up against Michu in Group B after the Netherlands and Spain were drawn together, with the likes of Chile and Australia.

Meanwhile, Jonjo Shelvey's England will face Uruguay, Italy and Costa Rica in Group D.

Bony has so far scored 8 goals in 23 appearances for the Ivory Coast, while de Guzman and Vorm have played 22 games for the Netherlands between them -  de Guzman with 8 caps and Vorm with 14.

Michu won his first cap for World Cup holders Spain in October in their qualifying victory over Belarus, while Jonjo Shelvey, who has made one appearance for England's senior side, could be in with a chance of making Roy Hodgson's squad for Brazil.

And it isn't too late for the likes of Wayne Routledge, Nathan Dyer and Leon Britton to make late bids for the England national team, with Roy Hodgson showing willingness to hand international debuts to the likes of Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Jay Rodriguez and Andros Townsend, over recent months.
