Swans sweat over van der Hoorn

Swansea City must wait to discover the extent of the injury suffered by Mike van der Hoorn during their 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

The big central defender was withdrawn at half-time after picking up a shoulder problem late in the first half at The Hawthorns and there are now concerns that he could face a spell on the sidelines.

“It was Mike’s shoulder – we don’t know yet what the problem is,” said boss Carlos Carvalhal.

“He cannot move his arm at the moment, but let’s see if things get better.”

Dutchman van der Hoorn has enjoyed his best run in a Swans shirt under Carvalhal, playing regularly on the right-hand side of a back three.

But it could be that Kyle Bartley steps into the starting side against Everton next weekend after he replaced van der Hoorn against the Baggies.

Carvalhal, meantime, is optimistic that Martin Olsson will be fine for the Everton game even though he needed treatment after a lunging challenge from Matt Phillips late on at West Brom.

“Martin got a kick but I think he will recover during the week,” the Swans boss said.
