Swansea City are waiting on the fitness of a trio of players due to illness ahead of the FA Cup clash with Aston Villa.

The Swans’ preparations for the third-round tie at Villa Park have been hit by a bout of sickness that has affected some of Graham Potter’s squad.

The manager confirmed Jefferson Montero, Wilfried Bony and Oli McBurnie had been unable to train on Thursday due to the bug.

The triumvirate will be assessed over the next 24 hours to determine their availability for the meeting with the Villans.

“There is a bit of sickness going around unfortunately,” said Potter.

“Jeff has not trained today, nor has Wilf, nor has Oli. We will see how those guys respond over the next 24 hours.

“Apart from that everyone is okay, barring Martin (Olsson) and Tom Carroll.”

Potter made wholesale changes when the Swans played Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup back in August.

But, while he will assess how his players have recovered after a hectic run of four games in 11 days, the Swans boss insists he will be fielding as strong a side as possible as they return to knock-out competition.

“It will not necessarily be a case of changing because of the cup competition, it will be purely about how the guys have responded from the four games we have had in a short space of time,” he added.

“But there is no need for rotation for the sake of rotation.

“We are going to Aston Villa, it is the third round of the FA Cup, we have got to go as strong as we can and that is what we will be doing.”
