Swansea City boss Garry Monk expecting tough test

9th August

Garry Monk believes the Swans face possibly their toughest pre-season test ever as Villarreal visit the Liberty this afternoon (3pm).
The La Liga club provide the opposition in the Swans' final warm-up fixture before the start of the Barclays Premier League season.
And Monk feels it will give his side the perfect test ahead of their league opener with Manchester United next Saturday.
"Villarreal are a very good footballing side," said the Swans boss. "They work really hard defensively and off the ball, and on the ball they have got good quality.
"It will be a really tough test for the boys. I have told them to expect a proper test - it is probably one of the hardest we have ever had in pre-season in my time at the club. But that's what I wanted.
"Villarreal were flying at the end of last season. They were up in the top six in the Spanish league and if they played in this country I think they would be a top-ten team.
"If we can put on a good performance against them it will give the boys confidence going into the new season.
"Of course you want to win, but it's more important to get a good performance and the players getting some more minutes
"You want to win and finish pre-season well, but it's more about performances and topping up the boys' fitness to make sure they are ready for next week.
"We will then have a good week's training going into the Manchester United game.
"The final selection isn't done yet. We will have to see how some players do and then make some decisions."

Tickets are still available for today's friendly with Villarreal at the Liberty (3pm).
Tickets are priced £15 Adults and £5 concessions, and can be purchased in-person at the Ticket Office or by calling 0844 815 6665.
