Swansea City defender Daniel Alfei joins Northampton on season-long loan

2nd July

Swansea City defender Daniel Alfei has joined League Two side Northampton Town on a season-long loan.
The 22-year-old completed his move today which sees him immediately join up with Chris Wilder's squad.
Alfei played in League Two last season, helping Portsmouth avoid the drop during a four-month stint at Fratton Park in which he made 15 appearances.
He last featured for Pompey came against Northampton during a 1-0 victory at Sixfields Stadium in April.

"At this stage, I need to be out playing competitive games in the Football League and it is a good club to go to,'' said Alfei. "There is a lot of redevelopment work going on there to make it a bigger and better club and I want to help it progress on the field.

"They have a good manager and that is important. I was impressed with the team when I played there for Portsmouth at the end of last season. They gave us a really tough game that day.

"I wanted to commit to a long loan because it is important to get myself settled rather than just spend a month or two here and there. I need to get a good season in, hopefully helping Northampton to do really well."
