Swansea City great Cliff Jones has received an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours List.

Jones, 91, has been recognised for services to Welsh football, and is widely recognised as one of Wales' greatest-ever players.

He is without question one of the finest players to ever emerge from Swansea City, and he became one of the best players - if not the best - in the world in his position.

Jones made 193 appearances for his hometown club between 1952 and 1958, and was a key figure as Wales qualified for the 1958 World Cup in Sweden, going on to reach the quarter-finals of the global showpiece.

In total Jones won 59 caps and scored 16 goals for his country, while he also enjoyed terrific success at Tottenham Hotspur, winning a league and cup double under Bill Nicholson in 1961, as well as a European Cup Winners' Cup and a further two FA Cups.

“Proud and humbled to receive this MBE," Jones wrote on social media.

“It was an honour to me to represent my beloved Wales and pull on the red dragon shirt.

“I share this with all my teammates and my wonderful wife Joan and family.”

Everyone at Swansea City sends our warmest congratulations to Cliff on his thoroughly deserved award.
