Swansea City Ladies

10th January

Swansea City Ladies maintained their lead at the top of the Welsh Premier Women's League with an impressive 5-0 victory over neighbours Port Talbot Town Ladies at Llandarcy Academy of Sport on Sunday.
The Swans started well as Jodie Passmore's headed effort narrowly looped over the bar.
Passmore had another chance to break the deadlock in the 17th minute but her effort hit the sidenetting, but she wasn't to be denied as her deflected free-kick put the Swans in front after 26 minutes.
Three minutes later the Swans doubled their lead as Alicia Powe fired home a powerful shot, while top scorer Stacey John netted a third five minutes before the break with a close-range finish.
The home side continued to press in the second half as John and Beynon's effort went close.

Midway through the second half Port Talbot keeper Chelsea Herbert was shown a red card after handling the ball outside the box, Sarah Adams' strike hit the post from the resulting free-kick.
Port Talbot were then awarded a penalty in the 76th minute as skipper Powe was adjudged to have handled in the box - only for the spot kick to be fired over the bar.
Swansea continued to press as Sophie Hancocks' close-range strike made the score 4-0 in the 79th minute before Ria Hughes sealed a comfortable victory with a 35-yard stunner.
After the match, scorer Hughes said: "We knew it was going to be a difficult game as it was a local derby and Port Talbot always put up a tough performance, but we responded well and came away with a deserved win.
"It's always good to get on the scoresheet, but it was a team effort."
