Swansea City Ladies Reserves WWWGL Cup

20th April

Swansea City Ladies Reserves are hoping to sign off a successful season with a league and cup double.
Undefeated and currently top of the West Wales Women and Girl's League, the team are now through to the Final of the WWWGL Cup after an impressive 23-0 victory over Haverfordwest in Sunday's semi-final. That came on the back of a convincing 6-1 win over Llangyfelach Ladies in the last eight of the competition.
With goals from Lauren Cubbon, Shona Davies, Stacey John, Matilda Liljegren, Taylor Williams and Taylor Bubnick, the Swans flew into the final where they will face Briton Ferry Llansawel Ladies - who are second in the league - at the latter's Old Road Ground on Sunday, May 21.
Recording equally convincing wins in their own cup campaign, Briton Ferry put five past both Camrose and Pontarddulais in the latter stages.
Lining up against Briton Ferry in the league only a couple of weeks ago, the top two teams both sought to end each other's unbeaten runs in a hard-fought match that eventually saw the Swans extend theirs courtesy of a 35-yard Bubnick screamer.
With the Canadian's goal the only thing separating the two, the final promises to be yet another competitive affair but the Reserves will be hoping for a repeat performance next month to secure the silverware and end their season on a high.
"Our reserve team has been fantastic this season and they have been a great addition to our set up," said Ladies manager Ian Owen. "The coaching staff and players are totally committed to our philosophy and already the first team has benefited from this. Next season we should really see the reward for implementing this feeder system.
"The squad has put itself in a strong position to collect some silverware this season and with the same professional attitude, I am sure they will get their reward."
