Head coach Alan Sheehan praised the resolve and resilience shown by his Swansea City side as they secured a hard-earned point at Southampton.

St Mary’s has not been a happy hunting ground for the Swans historically, and this was a first point at the venue since 2017.

To secure it the Swans needed to defend doggedly and also saw Lawrence Vigouroux deny Adam Armstrong, Leo Scienza and Shea Charles, while the woodwork prevented Scienza and Caspar Jander finding the net for the hosts.

Sheehan acknowledged his side had lacked fluency and accuracy with the ball, but was pleased with how the Swans stuck at their task to ensure they claimed a share of the spoils.

“It was certainly a hard-fought and hard-earned point,” said the Swans boss.

“Anyone who watched the game today would have seen we were up against a team who were at it, they had control in the first half and they made it very difficult for us.

“We had to hang in there, and we did ride our luck at times, and try and weather the storm because that is what you have to do sometimes.

“Most of our draws this season have felt like defeats, but this feels like a good point and I have to credit the players for the mentality and resilience we showed.

“We were not good enough with the ball, we did not create, but in terms of the mentality to come away to a place like this and stay in the game then I think you have to be happy to take a point.”
