Swansea City set for America visit as part of pre-season tour

15th May

Swansea City will begin their pre-season preparations for the new Barclays Premier League campaign in the heart of America.
The club has today confirmed a two-week training camp based in Chicago from July 6 - 20.
Garry Monk's men will play two friendlies in the second week of the camp against Chivas Guadalajara and Minnesota United.
They will play Mexican Premier League side Chivas at Miller Park, Milwaukee, on Wednesday, July 16; before facing Minnesota United of the NASL at the National Sports Center Stadium, Blaine, on Saturday, July 19. Kick-off times to follow.
"The two weeks in America will provide us with the perfect opportunity to start building our fitness levels ready for the new campaign," declared Swans boss Garry Monk.
"The first week will be purely fitness work before the introduction of some game-time against Chivas and Minnesota in the second week.
"Chivas Guadalajara is one of the most famous teams in the Mexican Premier League. It will provide us with a very good test, while also enabling us to tap into our own Hispanic links as football in the US continues to grow in popularity.
"I've also heard positive things about Minnesota United FC and the place in general. They are at the top of the North American Soccer League, the tier below the MLS, with a new ownership group that has exciting plans for the club."
The Swans are already proving popular Stateside after the 3-0 victory over Cardiff City at the Liberty Stadium proved to be the most-watched game in America last season.
The Welsh derby pulled in an average audience on NBC of over 1.2million, while the Swans also recorded the second highest viewing figures of the campaign with 1.1million viewers watching the club's fixture at Manchester United.
The training camp has been organised by PSC Ltd (www.pscltd.co.uk), who were also responsible for the Swans' previous USA tour to Colorado and San Jose in 2012.
Further details of the tour will follow in due course.
