Swansea City Under-23s Hamilton

31st July

Swansea City Under-23s rounded off their Scotland pre-season tour with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Hamilton Under-20s at SuperSeal Stadium on Sunday.
The development squad raced out of the blocks and could have led after five minutes when defender Aaron Lewis' cross found Owain Jones in the box, but the frontman's flicked header went narrowly over the bar.
Minutes later Jones latched onto a loose ball inside the area only for his looping shot to rattle the post before being cleared by the Hamilton defence.
But the young Swans did break the deadlock two minutes later when striker Botti Biabi headed home Josh Sheehan's corner from close range.
Hamilton launched attacks on Swansea's goal soon after in an effort to get back on level terms, but Swans keeper Mark Birighitti denied striker Ryan Tierney on two occasions.
Both sides played out a quiet remainder of the half with the Swans taking a narrow lead into the break.

HALF TIME: Hamilton U20s 0 Swans U23s 1

Swansea went close to doubling the lead when midfielder Sheehan played Jones in on goal, but the winger's fierce shot was saved by Woods.
Despite that chance, the home side were level minutes later when a loose ball from a corner was rifled into the net from 18 yards by one of Hamilton's trialists.
The young Swans could have retaken the lead soon after when a parried corner gifted substitute Jordan Garrick a header at goal, but his effort was cleared off the line by the Hamilton defence.
Half-time substitute keeper Lewis Thomas then made two superb saves to deny the home side as both sides settled for a draw.
The result means the U23s remain unbeaten on their three-game pre-season tour of Scotland.
It proved a positive week for the development squad, who now return to SA1 to continue their preparations ahead of their first game of the Premier League Two season at home to West Brom (Monday, August 15).
