Swansea City without suspended Ryan Bennett for Blackpool test
Swansea City will be without Ryan Bennett for Saturday’s home Championship encounter with Blackpool.
The centre-back is serving a one-match ban after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the defeat at Bournemouth before the international break.
Bennett has been impressive operating in the right-sided position of a three-man defence, with the 31-year-old having featured in 11 of the club’s 17 league matches so far.
His absence leaves an opportunity for the likes of Wales international Ben Cabango, Liverpool loanee Rhys Williams, Joel Latibeadiere and Brandon Cooper.
Cabango is available for selection after withdrawing from international duty for personal reasons, with the 21-year-old pushing hard for a place in Russell Martin’s starting XI against the Seasiders.
Martin said: “Ben is good. He had a chat with me and then Rob Page for his reasons for staying back and not going away this time.
“He’s desperate to play for Wales in the long term, but sometimes it’s important to focus on yourself and what you’re doing.
“The best thing for him in this moment in time was to stay here and get himself ready for the game coming up.
“I had a chat with Rob about it, and he also spoke to Ben about it.
“He’s a young player we are very excited about, and he has a massive future.”
Martin also confirmed striker Michael Obafemi is back in contention for a recall after missing out on the squad for the trip to Bournemouth.
