Swansea City's England midfielder Jonjo Shelvey joins Newcastle United

12th January

Swansea City's England international midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has joined Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee, subject to Premier League and international clearance.
The 23-year-old underwent a successful medical in the North East today, and will immediately link up with Steve McClaren's side.
Shelvey made 96 appearances for the Swans - scoring ten goals - since joining from Liverpool in a £5million deal in July 2013.
His performances at the Liberty Stadium earned him international recognition, with Shelvey becoming the first Swansea City player to play for England while at the club when he featured in a 6-0 win over San Marino last September.

Shelvey's first season in South West Wales included a Europa League campaign which saw the Swans reach the last 32, while his stunning 47-yard strike against Aston Villa was named goal of the season at the club's end-of-season awards night.
He made another 31 appearances - scoring three goals - in the 2014-15 season, as the Swans set new club records for highest position and points tally in the Premier League.
Shelvey, who has won five England caps this season, scored once in 19 appearances for the Swans this term - his goal earning a point in a 2-2 home draw with Bournemouth.
Everyone at Swansea City would like to thank Jonjo for his service, and wish him well for the future.
