Swansea City Women's forward Taite Trivett praised her team’s mentality after they responded emphatically to south Wales derby defeat with a 10–0 victory over Llanystumdwy to progress to the quarter-finals of the Bute Energy Welsh Cup.

The Swans took a two-goal lead into the break through strikes from Sammy Wynne and Emily Richards, with a resolute defensive performance from the visitors and a series of superb saves from goalkeeper Sara Lacey frustrating the home side.

Swansea then showcased their attacking quality in the second half, adding a further eight goals - including six in a devastating 13-minute spell - with Richards grabbing another, Stacey John adding a brace, and Maisie Miller, Trivett, Chloe Chivers and Caitlin Williams rounding off the scoring.

The result meant the Swans had scored 10 in one match for the second time this season, following a 10-1 league victory against Pontypridd United back in October.

It was also a successful afternoon for winger Trivett, who not only got herself on the scoresheet but also registered three assists, taking her tally to nine for the season across all competitions.

Trivett praised the togetherness of the squad in sticking together after the difficult result against Cardiff, admitting the team had to remain patient to break down a stubborn Llanystumdwy side.

“It was important that we had a positive reaction from last week and I think we all came together as a team to get the job done," she said.

“Football is about moving forward and learning from mistakes. We worked hard during the week to reflect and analyse the Cardiff game, and this was a different challenge. We stayed positive, kept a clean sheet, and that’s the most important thing.

“It wasn’t easy as the opposition made it very difficult for us but we showed our quality in the second half and put our name in the hat for the next round.

“(Head coach) Yzzy [Taylor] said at half-time to just keep moving the ball and keep believing that we can get through them. They played a low block which made it difficult to break through but we worked together as a team to work it around them.

“It’s always nice to get on the scoresheet, but at the end of the day the most important thing is the team performance. I’m pleased to be able to contribute not just with a goal, but with assists as well.”
