Tammy Abraham reckons Swansea City are on course for Southampton after their pre-season victory over Birmingham City.

Paul Clement’s men racked up their second friendly victory of the summer as Abraham and Leroy Fer struck at St Andrew’s to see off Harry Redknapp’s Blues.

The Swans’ latest display was by no means impeccable, but Clement felt it was his team’s best effort yet ahead of the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.

And new recruit Abraham feels the Swans will be ready to prove their quality when they go to St Mary’s in a fortnight’s time.

“We weren’t too pleased with our first-half performance against Birmingham,” the striker said.

“We know we are a better team than we showed in that first half.

“But in the second half and we produced a better performance. We got two goals and the win.

“We feel we are on course for Southampton. We know it’s getting closer and closer and we have to be ready. We have to show everyone what we are made of in the first game.”

Abraham put the Swans on the road to victory over Birmingham with a well-taken volley.

It was the teenager’s second goal in only three appearances following his loan move from Chelsea.

“I am very pleased. I came here to score goals and help the team as much as I can,” he added.

“I have been in the right place at the right time and I am happy I have got my goals.

“It was a nice finish. I could have had more but I take that and move on. We get ready for the next game and for the season.”
