Thomas Woodward "delighted" to extend stay at boyhood club
Thomas Woodward is savouring a "dream come true" after the youngster penned a new three-year deal with Swansea City.
The 19-year-old has extended his stay in SA1 until the end of June 2029, with his previous deal having been due to expire at the end of this season.
Woodward signed scholarship terms prior to the 2023-24 season, before earning his first professional contract two years later.
And the Welsh youth international is eager to continue his development as he works towards a senior debut, having recently been promoted to the first-team training group on the back of two exceptional campaigns across the academy age-groups.
"I'm really excited, I'm grateful for the opportunity to extend my stay here at this great club and I can't wait for the next three years," said Woodward.
"It gives me more time to keep learning and developing, learning off the senior boys and staff and I want to keep that up.
"I'm delighted to stay here, it's a club I've been at almost my whole life and it's a club where I want to make my professional debut. It's a dream come true now that I'm hopefully one step closer to that."
Woodward has been with the club since under-nine level, and enjoyed a prolific 2023-24 campaign, scoring 30 goals in all competitions across all age groups. He also ended last term with 23 goals across all age groups.
So far this season, he's netted a total of 14 goals, and has been enjoying regular exposure within the first-team environment as part of the club’s academy elite player group.
And amidst his goalscoring form, he earned a call-up to Wales Under-19s in September 2024, making an immediate impact by scoring on his debut against Azerbaijan.
"The past three years I feel I've really had a breakthrough, especially when I've almost always played up an age-group," added Woodward.
"I got top goalscorer two seasons in a row, and I'm an attacking midfielder but that's just the type of player I want to be, contributing all over the pitch and I'm thankful the boys also always assist me.
"All the hard work over the last few years is down to the coaching staff, family and players. They've all made me a better player and It's the reason I've been rewarded with a new deal.
"I can't wait to just keep working hard now, get as much experience and time within the senior environment and hopefully, my debut will come sooner than later."
