6th August

Swans 1-0 Tranmere
League One - Saturday, 6 August 2005
The Swans began life in their new stadium with a win thanks to a first-half strike from Adebayo Akinfenwa.
The striker - who arrived from Torquay United during the summer - netted on his debut as he bundled home inside the box after some fine trickery from Lee Trundle.
An eventful first half ended with Tranmere captain Jason McAteer seeing a penalty saved by Willy Gueret, while Trundle also saw a spot-kick saved by Rovers goalkeeper John Achterberg.
The visitors put the home side under severe pressure in the second half, but a combination of poor finishing and fine goalkeeping from Gueret meant that the Swans kicked off the season with three points.
Speaking after the game, striker Lee Trundle revealed that he wants to pick up where he left off in 2004-05 after the Swans won promotion from League Two.
"We want to push for a play-off spot, and I'm confident I can help get us there by scoring more goals than I did last season," he said.
"I don't mind it if the team depend on me for goals. I'm quite happy to shoulder that responsibility because I know I can step up into this division and carry on scoring."
