Swansea City 1 Hartlepool United 0
The Swans moved to the top of League One thanks to Angel Rangel's first goal for the club.
It was the visitors who had chances to break the deadlock as James Brown's shot had to be tipped onto the woodwork by Dorus De Vries and midfielder Anthony Sweeney's strike hit the crossbar.
Swansea striker Jason Scotland had a couple of chances throughout the game but was denied the room to create any goals due to the visitors' defensive display.
The deadlock was broken when Rangel struck the winner with eight minutes to play.
A clearance from Hartlepool keeper Budtz fell to Rangel, who fired into the bottom corner through a crowded penalty area to give Roberto Martinez's side all three points.
