U21s face Millwall cup clash

12th September

Swansea City Under-21s have drawn Millwall U21s in the Qualifying Round 2 of the inaugural U21 Premier League Cup.

The London-based club are due for a visit to Swansea on the week commencing October 21.

The brand new competition hopes to help improve the transition of youngsters from academy to professional players while giving their clubs the opportunity to win silverware.

Swans U21s Coach Kristian O'Leary believes the competition will aid the development of his players.

He said: "This new cup is good. What we do struggle with at this level is the lack of games. This is a bonus fixture, and hopefully we can progress to get some more fixtures in."

Fifty-two academies have entered the cup, with the Swans being placed in Category 2 of the southern section.

The tournament takes the form of one-off fixtures which are played on a regional basis until the Round of 16, whereupon the draw becomes national.

The final will be played over two legs, home and away, and is due to be held in the main stadia of the competing teams.
